Opportunities to Serve and Grow
At Bridge of Hope, we believe that in order to serve, you must also be willing to present yourself open to growing and learning as well. We have already identified many, many ways that volunteers can help, but we welcome your ideas and suggestions based on your own talents and skills.
The Big 5, which are essential for person to person rapport:
- God made me unique
- I have strengths
- I have weaknesses
- I have something to learn
- I have something to teach
Tutors are needed for a variety of teaching and sharing opportunities. Let us know of your availability, and we'll create a schedule that works for you.
You do not need to volunteer for all hours, or even a fixed schedule.
If a regular schedule does work well for you, we have the following timeslots for the school year:
- Working With Adults: Monday, Wednesday, Thursdays 10:00 a.m. through 1:00 p.m.
- Working with K-8 Students: Mondays, Wednesdays 2:30-5:30 p.m., and Saturdays 10:00 a.m. through 1:00 p.m.
The teacher's primary role is to encourage, not criticize, and to be flexible. Students live complicated lives, and schedules vary, and you will likely encounter priorities different from your own.
Process of Acceptance:
- Start with a 2-3 Hour Observation
- Fill Out Application & Background Check
- Phone Interview
- Join Our Team
We provide a community breakfast on Thursday morning at 7:00 a.m. We hope to add a food pantry, and will need volunteers for stocking and sorting.
Snacks, particularly health snacks, are always welcome and appreciated.
Volunteers are needed to help sort, hang and fold clothing. We have a great variety of donations, including coats, hats, gloves, pants, dresses, shirts, blouses, shoes, underweat, suits, work clothes, and more.
Help with Building and Grounds Maintenance
Our facility is a 12,000 square foot former school annex which now houses laundry facilities, showers, a kitchen, classrooms, the hang out room, offices, a bicycle shop, a hydroponics center, and much more. We would greatly appreciate whatever talents and skills you may have, including plumbing and electrical work, to simply helping us clean, paint and maintain the facility.
Work in the Community Gardens
We grow a lot of our own vegetables, and also grow vegetables to share with the community. In some cases, we have additional vegetables for sale, and then use those profits to help with other expenses. Both experienced and novice garderners are appreciated, and if you want to learn more, please ask.
Office Assistance and Promotion
It is an understatement to say that we operate on a minimal budget, and depend greatly on volunteers to help us with every task, including the necessary administration assistance, documentation, and management. We also would appreciate talented folks to come alongside us to help with public information, publicity and promotion--web writers, social media, print materials, photographers, and grant writers are encouraged to step forward at your convenience.
Bridge of Hope offers many interesting and challenging internship opportunities, and we are interested in learning more about your skill set, and helping you develop a customized internship that will benefit our community. Find out more.
